Abstract

A system and method of monitoring sobriety using a hand-held breath testing device that, on receipt of a user's breath, generates a breath test signal comprising substance content data and user identification data, and wirelessly transmits the breath test signal to a breath test signal receiving station. This disclosure relates generally to a method and system for remote sobriety monitoring, and more particularly relates to a method and system utilizing a breath testing and identification device for periodically analyzing the alcohol content or other substance content of the breath of a user in combination with a wireless or cellular transmitter or transceiver device to transmit an alcohol content.

Abstract

A system for monitoring the location of individuals, such as parolees, includes a wearable device worn by the individual and a portable device operatively coupled to the wearable device. The portable device is operatively coupled to a monitoring system through a wireless telephone network. The portable device transmits periodically encrypted location information as well as status information across the wireless network to the monitoring system. The monitoring system tracks the location of the individual and alerts the appropriate authorities when the individual violates a rule, such as a condition for parole. The portable device increases the time between transmissions when the individual is within a specified home location and reduces the time between transmissions when outside the specified location.

Abstract

A breath alcohol testing system for advanta- geous use in unsupervised blood alcohol testing includes a face mask having breath sample receiving means, components of an identity confirming means and components of means for insuring that this identity act and breath delivery are performed by the same person. The system requires that the face mask continuously engage the face of the subject between identity confirmation and breath delivery. By making the continuing physical presence of a subject an operative link in the system during both identity confirmation and breath delivery, the integrity of upsupervised testing is greatly enhanced.
