Abstract

A monitoring device, including an encasement having an upper part and a lower part; wherein the lower part is attached by a hinge at a first side of the encasement to the upper part; wherein at an opposite side the upper part can be lowered onto the lower part to close the encasement or lifted up to open the encasement; an elongated strap with a first end and a second end wherein the first end of the strap is attached to the first side of the encasement and configured to enable coupling the monitoring device to a person by wrapping the strap around a limb of a person, and inserting the second end of the strap into the opposite side of the encasement onto the lower part and covering it with the upper part.

Abstract

A tracking device, including a communication interface encased in a encasement with a receptacle on two opposite sides of the encasement, a strap, including one or more thin elongated flexible sheets, links coupled to one side of the one or more thin elongated flexible sheets, a fiber optic cable extending from a first end of the one or more thin elongated flexible sheets to a second end of the one or more thin elongated flexible sheets, a head connected to each end of the one or more thin elongated flexible sheets; wherein the heads are configured to fit into the receptacles and lock the strap in the receptacles thus preventing the strap from sliding out of the receptacles; and wherein the communication interface is configured to detect tampering with the strap by transmitting an optical signal through the fiber optic cable.

Abstract

A body-worn tracking device (BWTD) includes a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) device, a cellular communication unit, at least one processor, and at least one memory device. The at least one memory device includes instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to determine whether the BWTD is located on board an aircraft. Execution of the instructions further causes the at least one processor to, responsive to determining that the BWTD is located on board the aircraft: disable the GNSS device and the cellular communication unit; and temporarily refrain from generating an alert that indicates a current location of the BWTD cannot be determined.

A body-worn tracking device (BWTD) includes a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) device, at least one motion sensor, at least one processor, and at least one memory device. The at least one memory device includes instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to determine, based on data generated by the at least one motion sensor, a net distance between the last known location of the BWTD and a current location of the BWTD. The instructions further cause the at least one processor to determine, based on the net distance, whether the BWTD is within a bounded area that includes the last known location; and responsive to determining that BWTD is not within the bounded area, output an indication that the BWTD is not within the bounded area.

A system for tracking a location of a body-worn tracking device (BWTD) includes a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) component, one or more sensors, one or more processors, and a memory device. The memory device includes instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to determine whether a current location of the BWTD can be determined using the GNSS component. In an example, a system comprises at least one body-worn tracking device (BWTD) configured to transmit location data that indicates a location of the BWTD and a computing system configured to communicate with the at least one BWTD. The computing system is configured to receive the location data from the at least one BWTD, determine, based on a set of weighted filters associated with at least one monitoring attribute, at least one gradient value corresponding to the location data, where the at least one gradient value represents a level of the at least one monitoring attribute, and perform at least one operation based on the at least one gradient value.

In some instances, the techniques include determining a compliance metric that represents a level of compliance for at least one offender. That is, the compliance metric may be a quantitative value that represents whether a user wearing BWTD is complying with established rules or desired behaviors.

Abstract

According to aspects of this disclosure, a monitored person, via an end-user computing device, may generate a rule deviation request and send the rule deviation request to the computing system of the supervising agency. Based on the received request, the computing system may, upon receiving an indication that the request is authorized, determine a reconfigured rule and enforce the reconfigured rule. In some instances, the computing system may be configured to suppress an alert that would have been generated based on an activity prohibited by initial rule but that is permitted by the reconfigured rule. The reconfigured rule may remain in effect for a duration specified by the request. In this way, the techniques may increase the efficiency with which rule deviation requests are processed and enforced.

In some examples, a method inclines receiving a set of GPS locations from respective body-worn tracking devices (BWTDs), wherein each respective BWTD has determined, upon entering within communicating range of a base station transceiver (BST) of a wireless network, its GPS location in response to identification of a unique identifier of the base station transceiver (BST); generating a surrogate location based at least in part on each geographic location from each respective BWTD of the set of BWTDs; and performing at least one operation in response to determining, based on the surrogate location and receiving the unique identifier of the BST from at least one the BWTDs, a location of the at least one BWTD.
