Provided is a premises security monitoring system comprising a system control unit and at least one sensor node to detect security events, each sensor node including a first transceiver to receive control signals from, and to report security events to, the control unit. The control unit is configured to operate as an access point for a Wi-Fi network. At least one of the sensor nodes is powered by an autonomous power supply and includes, in addition to the first transceiver, a WiFi transceiver for communication with the control unit over the Wi-Fi network.
