Abstract

A system for tracking a location of a body-worn tracking device (BWTD) includes a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) component, one or more sensors, one or more processors, and a memory device. The memory device includes instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to determine whether a current location of the BWTD can be determined using the GNSS component. The instructions also cause the one or more processors to determine, based in part on the activity of the wearer of the BWTD and based on a determination that the current location of the BWTD cannot be determined using the GNSS component, whether to perform an action. The instructions also cause the one or more processors to perform the action in response to a determination to perform the action.

A body-worn tracking device (BWTD) includes a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) device, at least one motion sensor, at least one processor, and at least one memory device. The at least one memory device includes instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to determine, based on data generated by the at least one motion sensor, a net distance between the last known location of the BWTD and a current location of the BWTD. The instructions further cause the at least one processor to determine, based on the net distance, whether the BWTD is within a bounded area that includes the last known location; and responsive to determining that BWTD is not within the bounded area, output an indication that the BWTD is not within the bounded area.

Abstract

According to aspects of this disclosure, a monitored person, via an end-user computing device, may generate a rule deviation request and send the rule deviation request to the computing system of the supervising agency. Based on the received request, the computing system may, upon receiving an indication that the request is authorized, determine a reconfigured rule and enforce the reconfigured rule. In some instances, the computing system may be configured to suppress an alert that would have been generated based on an activity prohibited by initial rule but that is permitted by the reconfigured rule. The reconfigured rule may remain in effect for a duration specified by the request. In this way, the techniques may increase the efficiency with which rule deviation requests are processed and enforced.

Abstract

The subject matter discloses a method and system for calibrating an electronic monitoring device having a housing and a strap being connected to a first end and a second end of the housing. The method provides for calibrating a transmission power level for signals transmitted along the strap. Then, the signal is generated and transmitted along the strap from the first end of the housing to the second end of the housing. Calibrating the transmission power level for signals transmitted along the strap provides for minimizing the power level to a lowest transmission power level detectable by a receiver located in the housing or until the signal is lower than a predefined threshold.

Abstract

A system provides for radio frequency detection of an offending device within a specific range of a body worn device. Upon detection of the radio frequency signal, the body worn device communicates to an infrastructure to alert of the presence and optionally the location of the radio frequency signal, and therefore the offending device. The user and/or location of the body worn device is/are revealed and the source of the radio frequency signal is readily determined for confiscation of the offending device. Other features include locating/tracking of the body worn device (and wearer) detection of tampering with the body worn device, and detection of cloaking of the body worn device (e.g. submerging in water or covering with aluminum foil, etc.).

Abstract

An electronic monitoring device for monitoring an individual and detecting signal blocking. The electronic monitoring device may be equipped with GPS and/or RF communication technology that may be interrupted intentionally or unintentionally. The device compares sampled incident energy with a reference level to identify an occurrence of blocking the transmitter signal. The device may also base determination of a signal blocking occurrence on input from a status detection module. Status information is also leveraged to intelligently calibrate the device to more robustly determine a tampering event.

Abstract

An apparatus and method for bi-directional communication with an external transceiver; the apparatus comprising a transmitter for transmitting an engagement request message from a tag to said external transceiver when said tag is in a non-engaged mode and for transmitting a directed message from said tag to an engaged external transceiver when said tag is in an engaged mode; a processor for bi-directional communication and for changing said engaged mode of said tag to the non-engaged mode, following a lost connection with said engaged external transceiver; and a receiver for receiving a response for said engagement request message from said external transceiver and for receiving an acknowledgement message to said directed message from said engaged external transceiver.

Abstract

A wearable device has an internal rechargeable power source for supplying power to internal circuitry of the device. An external rechargeable battery pack is physically and electrically interfaced to the wearable device and provides power to recharge the internal rechargeable power source while the device is being worn, thereby eliminating the need to connect the wearable device directly to a source of electricity using wires. The rechargeable battery pack is recharged in a charging station connected to a source of electricity.

Abstract

A docking station is located in an offender's home. It is connected to a transformer, and a wireless modem. The docking station includes a processor board containing a microprocessor which receives the offender's home schedule from a central monitoring station via a cellular network and communicates with a miniature tracking device positioned in the docking station when the offender is at home and on the belt of an offender when he is away from home. The miniature tracking device receiving GPS signals. A tamper resistant bracelet transmitter permanently positioned on the offender's ankle communicates by wireless transmission to the tracking device.

Abstract

An improved transmitting tag for enhancing the tracking and locating capability of a monitoring system and for allowing control over accessibility to particular zones and/or equipment within a restricted area. The tag is provided with a transmitter of multiple broadcasting signals for allowing periodical broadcasting of at least two signals of different strength at different time intervals and preferably of different information content. The signals carry the tag identification code and a strength identification code. The weak signals emitted by the tag can be further exploited for allowing or denying accessibility to local operating systems.
