Abstract

Embodiments use electronic speech samples of detainees and automatically scan electronic speech sample databases to detect when a detainee has a criminal record and to alert controlled-environment facility personnel to that record. An electronic speech sample of the detainee is captured during booking or at another time. The electronic speech sample is compared to a database of electronic speech samples of individuals with criminal records. If the electronic speech sample matches an existing electronic speech sample in the database, then information associated with the matching electronic speech sample is provided to the controlled-environment facility personnel. The information is analyzed to identify key issues, such as active warrants. The controlled-environment facility personnel are alerted to any such key information.

Abstract

Systems and methods are disclosed for communication classification and escalation using a machine learning model. Metadata for a communication is obtained along with features of the content in the communication. Using a machine learning model, a likelihood that the communication comprises suspicious content or a topic of interest is determined from the metadata and or a communication transcript. If the likelihood that the communication comprises suspicious content or a topic of interest is at or above a predetermined threshold, then the communication is marked for review by a human agent; otherwise, the communication is ignored. A communication may have suspicious content or a topic of interest based upon the presence of keywords in the communication transcript either alone or in combined with metadata or other features of the content in the communication. The one or more keywords may be associated with illegal or unauthorized items, activities, or behaviors.

Abstract

Video communications of residents of a controlled-environment facility are monitored to detect instances of inappropriate behavior within the video, such as nudity. Residents may participate in live video visitation sessions with non-residents. Video recordings are generated for each video feed of the live video visitation. During the live video visitation, indications of inappropriate behavior displayed in the live video are detected. If indications of inappropriate behavior are detected in the live video, the recorded video is annotated to specify the locations of the detected indications in the recording. Upon completion of the video visitation session, post-processing of the recorded video detects additional indications of inappropriate behavior. The additional indications may be detected at proximal locations to the annotations and may be detected based on sampling frames of the recording to detect changes in the occurrence of pixels having a skin tone color.

Abstract

Systems and methods provide a resident of a controlled-environment facility with a visitation service that include messaging capabilities, where the message are managed on behalf of the resident based on the visitation sessions in which the resident participates. In one scenario, the resident issues an initial visitation request for a visitation session with a particular non-resident. In response to the non-resident not accepting this initial visitation request, the resident is allowed to record and store a message, such as a voice message or video message, for retrieval and playback by the non-resident. At a later time, the resident issues a second visitation request for a visitation session with the same non-resident. The non-resident accepts the second request and the requested visitation session between the non-resident and the resident is conducted. In response to the visitation session being conducted, the stored message may be marked for deletion.

Abstract

A location-based analytics system provides tracking and visualization of individuals within a controlled-environment facility. A plurality of sensors, such as RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) sensors, are located within the controlled-environment facility and detect individuals located within a first proximity to the sensors. An analytics system determines the identity of individuals detected by the sensors and reports the locations of the identified individuals. A user interface provides the ability to select the display of the location and movement of selected individuals of the identified individuals on a three-dimensional model of the controlled-environment facility. The user interface also provides the ability to select a three-dimensional representation for the selected individuals and various other aspects of the controlled-environment facility. The selected representation of the selected individuals is projected onto the three-dimensional model of the controlled-environment facility at locations corresponding to the reported locations of the selected individuals within the facility.

Abstract

Embodiments provide methods and systems for regulating the use of virtual reality environments provided to residents of controlled-environment facilities. In response to a request for virtual reality programs from an inmate, the privilege status of the inmate is used to determine the available virtual environments in which the inmate may participate. The participation of the inmate within a virtual reality session may be restricted based on the privilege status of the inmate. Any limitations on an inmate's participation within an approved virtual environment may be enforced by restricting the behavior of an avatar representing the inmate within the virtual environment. The privilege status of inmates may be used to enforce restrictions that prohibit contact between certain inmates or certain classifications of inmates. The participation of inmates may be restricted and terminated based on a measured physiological responses to the inmate's participation in a virtual environment.

Abstract

An investigative system uses positioning information, such as global position system information, from a non-resident device used for communication with a correctional facility inmate. Therein, a correctional facility communications application program upon installation on a non-resident communication device, prompts the non-resident to grant a waiver for an investigative data aggregation and analysis system associated with at least one correctional facility to access positioning information provided by the non-resident communication device, and prompts the non-resident to grant location reporting permission on the non-resident communication device, prior to use of the non-resident communication device to communicate with a correctional facility inmate. The investigative data aggregation and analysis system, thereafter, captures position data collected by the non-resident communication device. The investigative data aggregation and analysis system may analyze captured position data for a location of an event of investigative interest and provide an alert to an investigator, with the location.

Abstract

A private digitized, decentralized, and distributed controlled-environment facility ledger is created using a genesis hash and wallet code assigned to a controlled-environment facility resident upon intake of the resident into the facility. In response to an occurrence of a first controlled-environment facility transaction with respect to the resident, a first new hash containing a cryptographic hash of the genesis hash is built, and the ledger is updated to reflect the first transaction, and to associate the first new hash with the first transaction, both with respect to the resident. Thereafter, subsequent new hashes, each containing a cryptographic hash from each prior hash, are each built in response to each subsequent controlled-environment facility transaction with respect to the resident, and the ledger is updated to reflect each subsequent transaction, and associate each subsequent new hash with the respective subsequent transaction, both with respect to the resident.

The platform monitors controlled-environment facility resident call volume, recognizes an average call volume and detects an increase in call volume above the average call volume or a decrease in call volume below the average call volume. The platform automatically initiates a controlled-environment facility resident calling restriction in response to a detected increase in call volume or automatically initiates an increase in controlled-environment facility resident calling allocation in response to a detected decrease in call volume below the average call volume. Thereafter, the platform automatically removes the calling restriction upon the call volume dropping to a first predetermined threshold in accordance with the average call volume or automatically remove the increase in calling allocation upon the call volume rising to a second predetermined threshold in accordance with the average call volume.

Abstract

Activity and aggression detection and monitoring in a controlled-environment facility includes gathering audio, video and/or telemetry input from one or more dedicated and/or ad hoc sensors disposed in portions of the controlled-environment facility. A baseline normal input level from each of the sensors indicative of normal activity in the controlled-environment facility (proximate to a subject sensor) is predetermined. A determination is then made whether the input from each of the sensors rises above or falls below the predetermined normal input level, and when it does, the sensor input of the subject sensor may be recorded. When input from a sensor rises above or falls below the predetermined normal input level, an alert may be issued to controlled-environment facility personnel and/or law enforcement, the input from the subject sensor may be streamed to the personnel, and/or a recording of the sensor input may be offered.

Abstract

System, devices and methods are provided for providing a resident of a controlled-environment facility with services via a communications device, where access to software components, software features and/or content on the communication device may be restricted based on the results of a mental health assessment administered via the communication device. The communication device utilized by the resident connects to a resident communications system that provides use of requested software elements. If a requested software element is determined to be restricted, the resident must complete a mental health assessment that determines a distress level of the resident. The distress level may be determined based on inputs provided by the resident and sensor inputs collected by the communication device. If the mental health assessment indicates the distress level of the resident is below a threshold, the resident is allowed to utilize the software element.

Abstract

Personal controlled-environment facility resident communication and/or data devices deployed within a controlled-environment facility each have a device identification apparatus (e.g. RFID tag). Interrogators and/or readers disposed within zone(s) defined within the controlled-environment facility identify, recognize, or otherwise read the device identification apparatus(es). A controlled-environment facility management system and/or a controlled-environment facility communications processing system coupled to the interrogators and/or readers determine whether a particular personal device entering, attempting to operate in, leaving, or outside a particular zone is authorized to operate in that zone and/or is authorized to operate one or more particular apps in that zone, based upon the device identification apparatus identified, recognized, or otherwise read by the interrogator and/or reader within that zone. Commands are sent to an identified personal device and/or to an app operating on the device, based on whether the particular device and/or app is authorized to operate in or outside that zone.

Abstract

A resident of a controlled-environment facility is provided with a messaging service that includes a capability that provides a message recipient with reply message capabilities. A visitation request system receives requests for communication sessions between residents and non-residents. The visitation system initiates a request for a communication session on behalf of the requesting party and determines that the responding party has not accepted the communication session request. Since the request has not been accepted, a messaging service provides the requesting with an interface for recording a message for delivery to the responding party. If the requesting party records a message, the responding party is notified of the recorded message. Once the responding party plays the recorded message, the responding party is provided an option to record a reply message for delivery to the requesting party. The requesting party is notified of the reply message from the responding party.

Abstract

Systems, methods and devices provide gaming services to residents of a controlled-environment facility. A first network interface of a device provides a restricted-bandwidth connection to a gaming system via one or more network access points located within the facility. A second network interface of the device establishes a second connection with the gaming system via a high-bandwidth connection in order to download one or more games to the device. Once the device is disconnected from the high-bandwidth connection, a request for the resident to access a downloaded game is issued to the gaming system via the restricted-bandwidth connection. An authorization key granting temporary access to the game is transmitted to the device via the restricted-bandwidth connection. The resident has access to the game until expiration of the authorization key is detected. The authorization key may expire based on duration of gameplay or based on gameplay progress.

Abstract

Systems and methods enabling inbound calls to controlled-environment facility resident telephone numbers employ resident-associated communications devices deployed in the facilities. An inbound and outbound calling platform assigns a telephone number to each resident and associates a routable (IP) address of each resident communications device with such telephone number. This calling platform also presents an online directory to accessing inbound callers that lists residents the caller is allowed to call, the telephone number(s) of such resident(s), and whether such residents and their communications devices are ready to receive a call. The calling platform reconfirms such information upon an inbound call being placed to a telephone number assigned to a resident and signals the resident communications device associated with the resident assigned that telephone number. A controlled-environment facility communication processing system routes the call to the resident communications device associated with the resident called and connects the call.

Abstract

Video communications of residents of a controlled-environment facility are monitored to detect instances of non-verbal communications within the video, such as the display of written messages and hand signals. Residents may participate in live video visitation sessions with non-residents. Video recordings are generated for each video feed of the live video visitation. During the live video visitation, indications of non-verbal communications displayed in the live video are detected. If indications of non-verbal communications are detected in the live video, the recorded video is annotated to specify the locations of the detected indications in the recording. Upon completion of the video visitation session, post-processing of the recorded video detects additional indications of displayed non-verbal communication. The additional indications may be detected at proximal locations to the annotations and may be detected based on sampling frames of the recording to detect changes in the color balance indicating the display of a message surface.

Abstract

Methods and systems provide a controlled-environment facility communication system that provides regulated communication sessions between residents and non-residents. Via a supervisory system, a bypass may be authorized for exempting the communication session from various regulated aspects of sessions regulated by the communication system. For instance, a communication may be exempt from monitoring based on assertions that the communication is privileged. The communications system receives a request for a communication session with a non-resident at a first telephone number. If a communication session is authorized by a bypass authorization, the communication session is hosted, while exempt from the regulations specified by the bypass authorization. A monitoring system tracks the hosted bypass communication session by determining whether telephone numbers other than the first telephone number have been joined to the communication session. These joined telephone numbers may be used to identify unauthorized communications by the resident.

Abstract

Systems and methods provide the generation of signed recordings of audio and video calls. The signed recordings include information that may be used to verify the integrity of a purported copy of the recording. The recording may be generated by capturing the audio and/or video from a monitored communication and streaming the captured data to a recording. As the captured data is streamed to the media file used for the recording, a hash value is calculated for each segment of the received data. Information describing the context of the communication may be used to generate another hash value. A digital signature for the recorded call may be generated based on the two combined hash values. Operating in this manner, a signed recording of the communication may be generated while a recording of the communication to a media file is being made, rather than by post-call processing of a stored file.

Abstract

Dynamic controlled-environment facility resident communication allocation based on call volume may be implemented using a controlled-environment facility secure communication platform.
