Abstract

An automatic knife sharpening machine may include a vice to grip a blade of a knife and a pair of grind wheels to grind material from the blade. The machine may include a scanner to determine a profile of an edge of the blade, and a sharpness sensor to determine a sharpness level of the edge. The machine may include a controller. The controller may perform a first sharpening pass on the knife by moving the grind wheels into contact with the blade, and advancing the grind wheels longitudinally along the blade from adjacent the vice towards a tip of the blade with the grind wheels in contact with the blade. The controller may determine, using the sharpness sensor, the sharpness level of the edge after the first sharpening pass and perform at least one second sharpening pass when the determined sharpness level is less than a threshold sharpness level.

Abstract

A cement board screw a high thread that begins on the tapered end, extends onto the shank and terminates at a first axial location along the shank. The high thread defines a high peripheral edge, where a leading flank and a trailing flank meet at the high peripheral edge and together define a high thread angle that is between about thirty degrees and about fifty-five degrees. A low thread begins on the tapered end, extends onto the shank and terminates substantially at the first axial location along the shank such that an axial length of the low thread is substantially the same as and contiguous with an axial length of the high thread. The low thread includes a leading flank and a trailing flank that meet at a low peripheral edge and together define a low thread angle that is between about fifty degrees and about seventy degrees.

Abstract

A process and apparatus for sublimating printed images (100, 300) onto two or more products substantially simultaneously are disclosed. Software components are configured to receive input of a desired number of products (50, 60) to sublimate, and then determine a spatial arrangement (54, 56, 62, 64, 66) of the printed images on transfer media (52) to sublimate the desired number of products substantially simultaneously, The apparatus is configured to print the images onto the media (52) according to the spatial arrangement, then position the media onto a substrate (36). The products are automatically placed on the media proximate to their corresponding printed images. The apparatus manipulates the media to substantially surround the products and places at least one image onto each side of each product to be sublimated. One or more heating platens (14) engage the media to sublimate the images. The heating platens are configured, using a control, to sublimate multiple products substantially simultaneously in a single thermal cycle.

Abstract

A process and apparatus (100, 300, 800) for sublimating printed images onto two or more sides of a product (1410) simultaneously using a single heating platen (14) are disclosed. The apparatus is configured to print (2) one or more images (92, 94, 96, 98) onto transfer media (90, 1420), then position the transfer media onto a substrate (10, 36). A product (1410) to receive the sublimated image is positioned on top of the transfer media (90, 1420), and the apparatus manipulates the transfer media to substantially surround (Fig. 14) the product and place at least one image onto each side of the product to be sublimated. A single heating platen then engages the transfer media to sublimate the image. The heating platen is configured, using a control, to sublimate opposing sides of a product substantially simultaneously in a single thermal cycle.

Abstract

An automatic product sublimation process is disclosed allowing for point-of-sale customization of sublimation parameters in a retail environment. A dye sublimation transfer printing system (100, 300) is configured to print one or more images onto transfer media, then position the media onto a substrate (10, 36). A selected product is positioned on top of the media. The system is configured to automatically determine, by a processor, one or more of a temperature and duration of a single thermal cycle to sublimate the one or more images onto the selected product. The determination may be based on properties of the product, characteristics of the images, or both. One or more heating platens (14, 42) engage the transfer media to sublimate the product in a single thermal cycle, wherein at least one of the cycle's temperature and duration match the determined values. The disclosed process improves the quality of the sublimation technique, yet requires no substantive operator training.

Abstract

An engraving system (10) operable to engrave user- loaded items (12) is provided The engraving system may have a housing (14), an engraver (36) located within the housing, and a carrier (40) configured to receive from a user a cartridge (66) holding the item to be engraved and to position the cartridge relative to the engraver. The carrier may be configured to engrave the item via windows in the cartridge, and to flip the cartridge relative to the engraver for engraving on multiple sides of the item.
